The news is touted as supposedly unbiased and impartial.  A century ago the news was very different.  The facts would be presented, and it would be left up to the viewer to determine the truth.  Today, the media routinely tries to influence our thinking instead of presenting the facts.  Consider the following quote from John Swinton responding to a toast to the "independent press" of America, (John Swinton, 1829–1901 a Scottish-American journalist, newspaper publisher, and orator from the New York Times.)          

          "There is no such thing as an independent press in America ... You know it, and I know it. There is not one of you who dares to express an honest opinion. If you express it you know beforehand that it will not appear in print. I am paid l50 dollars per week for keeping honest opinions out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar salaries for doing similar things. If I should allow honest opinions to be printed in one issue of my paper, ...  my occupation would be gone. The business of a leading journalist is to distort the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell his country and his race for his daily bread, or his salary. You know this, and I know it, and what foolery to be toasting an " independent press." We are the tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are jumping-jacks. They pull the string and we dance. Our time, our talent, our possibilities are the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes."  The Ohinemuri Gazette (Paeroa, New Zealand), Volume I, Issue 43, 8 October 1892, Page 3.

             If this was stated in the late 1800's about their press, what would he say about todays press?  This is what you would call propaganda and not journalism.  We need to be aware of the deception around us and find alternative journalists to get honest opinions from.  Even from independent journalist we need to check all the facts, but the truth is that mainstream media is owned by giant corporate sponsors who have agendas to meet.  Here are some links presenting alternative news that is not represented in the mainstream media.  As in everything, study, pray, and use Godly discernment to come to the truth.
